Silvered bronze of heavy broad form, just over 2 3/4” width. Oval form and heavy round section with faceted cubical terminals and tapered cross pin. When fastened to the jerkin, these small metal brooches provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor.
